Sporting Equals Awards 2026

Sporting Equals hosted its ninth annual Awards on 18 April 2026 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, bringing together leaders, organisations and partners to celebrate progress in race equality and inclusion in sport.

The evening recognised individuals and groups making lasting impact, both at elite and grassroots levels. Special Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Maggie Alphonsi and Roland Butcher for their outstanding contributions to sport and equality.

Maro Itoje was named Sportsman of the Year for the second time, following his historic achievement as the first Black captain of the British & Irish Lions. Sadia Kabeya was awarded Sportswoman of the Year, marking a significant night for Rugby Union.

Winners and speakers highlighted the importance of continuing to break down barriers and ensure sport is inclusive for all. Sporting Equals Chair Dr Howard Haughton emphasised the role of sport in driving societal change, while Sport England’s Phil Smith noted that efforts to promote diversity and inclusion are more essential than ever.
